The first space is actually a model of a home/office hotel concept called Zoku that is slated to open in Amsterdam later this year. The Zoku loft measures 24 square meters (258 square feet) and is all about intelligent use of space. Designed to have enough flexibility that working professionals can stay for extended periods, work comfortably, and even entertain clients when necessary, this loft has to cover all the bases. The King size bed is hidden behind a creative wood slat wall, tucked away from sight. This lets anyone entering the loft focus on the common living areas, from the kitchen to the dining room. The live/work space also features bicycle storage and cozy work areas that are ideal for creatives.

5 Apartment Designs Under 500 Square Feet

We feature 5 small space apartments that look beautiful and at the same time make the best use of what they have.

The living, kitchen, and dining space all have easy communication with one another. In order to make this possible, the design has to both separate and connect the disparate spaces. Patterns and unique design elements manage to do this well. In the kitchen, a half wall made out of wood slats creates more division but still allows light and air to flow through. Similarly, a swirled rug design in the living room contrasts a checked pattern in the entryway, which makes it easier to divide spaces.

Concrete works well in lofts, to be sure, but you don't have to have an artsy spot overlooking downtown to make it work. This space is super chic and uses a lot of disparate style elements to create a unified look. The exposed concrete in the living room definitely give the home a bit of an edge while interior glass walls separate the bedroom from the rest of the house. Glass blocks in the kitchen and both let in lots of natural light without compromising privacy.

The pattern choices in this next space are even more outlandish, though in entirely unique ways. A bright green shag rug and sharply pointed light fixtures add a bit of texture to the small space as well.

Luckily, designer Anastsasiya Kashira is skilled and has used the idea of multipurpose spaces to create a home that works for this particular family. This is largely accomplished in the children's room. Two year old twins and a 10-year-old girl share the room, which is divided with curtains.
