The Viceroy Hotel, Bali

We received a lot of queries about an image featured in our Dozen Spots That Make Us Say ‘Wow!’ post we did a while back. That particular image, the 2nd one in that post, was uncredited as we couldn’t pin a source to it back then. Given the attention it was receiving we decided to dig around a bit and have now the whereabouts of this paradise. It is The Viceroy in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia and it is one of the most serenely beautiful vacation spots in the world. With its excessive indoor and outdoor pools, majestic mountain views, and lush green surroundings, it is quite a surreal place.

A semi circular terrace offers majestic and breathtaking views of Ubud’s lush forestry.

The deluxe terrace suite offers couples romantic and private relaxation areas.

Many of the rooms come with their own private pools, sometimes flowing indoors or outdoors.

The luxury hotel chain describes the architecture and design of their Bali counterpart as harmonious with nature and full of warm light, with beautiful views and a soothing atmosphere overall.

The simple Asian-inspired decor, indoor pool, and overflow of warm light make the restroom an especially soothing space.

Some pools flow through the interiors of the terrace suites, enhancing guests’ connection to the outdoors, even while inside.

Villa in Mykonos

Mykonos is a tiny little island in Greece that has a modest population of about ten thousand people. Though small in area, the island is a popular tourist destination thanks to its fabulous beaches and vibrant night life. Much frequented by cruise ships and jet-setters, Mykonos indulges its visitors with luxury destinations that are blessed with fairy tale views of the seas. One such particularly fascinating spot is the Mina One villa located in the southwest part of the island. Designed in traditional all-white Mediterranean style and offering ‘Santorini-like’ views, the place just blows your mind. Don’t blame us if you are feeling a little droopy after seeing the images below.

Have you made up your mind about where to relax here? In those sofas under the shade…? The pebble covered infinity pool…? Or would you rather prefer that Jacuzzi…?

House With Insane Sea View

Are you willing to shell out $25,000,000 for a house? If so, this is what you could gun for. Sprawled on 11,000 square feet, the Razor house commands mind-boggling views of sea and nature. Designed by Wallace E. Cunningham, (one of AD top 100), the house sports 4 bedrooms, 6 baths, a fabulous two level guest house and features private access to Black’s Beach. Maybe it is the floor to ceiling glass or the look of that garage, but it definitely it conjures up visions of the Iron Mans’ House.

UPDATE (Jan 7, 2012): The DailyMail reports that the mansion has been sold to a ‘mystery buyer’ in the Eastern Coast of United States for USD 14.1M.

The Stunning ‘Glass Pavilion’ by Architect Steve Hermann

This just hit our inbox. The format of the email was quite familiar – ‘Home of <insert favorite celebrity name here>’. Yes, we have had our share of these before and it didn’t take us too long to find the original whereabouts of this home either. This modern marvel is the magnum opus of California based architect Steve Hermann. Now listed at Sotheby’s for sale at Rs.108 crores ($24 Million), this 14,000 square feet 5 bedroom wonder seemingly also includes a vintage car collection. The architecture is iconic and the architect’s obsessive attention to detail shows through in every shot of the home.

The stark openness in the design is the only thing that scares us here!

Luxury Italian Villa for Rental

Law of attraction believers, you might want to pin this up. This palace of a luxury villa is located at the heart of a 2700 acre private estate on Tuscany border in Italy. The owner, Count Antonio Bolza, specializes in refurbishing isolated buildings spread across the estate which he then markets them to premier clients. Design and good taste runs within the family. The Count’s son, Benedikt Bolza, is in the list of Architectural Digest’s AD100 and his brother Niki Bolza is an interior designer as well. Together they are masters in giving new life to century old farmhouses like the one below.

Palazzo, as the name suggested, is a large formal villa located in the heart of the Reschio Estate. An External twin staircase leads up from the front terrace to the First Floor and the floor in the Italian Villa tradition is called the Piano Nobile and holds the formal Drawing Room and Salone. A solid stone tower contains a semi-spiral hand built travertine staircase leading from basement to the second floor where the spacious master suit is located. There are four further en-suite guest bedrooms, one on the ground floor and three on the first floor. Palazzo has recently been restored to the very highest standard of renovation and design and incorporates many innovative features whilst saying true to the age and integrity of a classic villa. It stands in a commanding position with magnificent 360 degree views and has an extensive parterre, a heated 20 x 5m infinity swimming pool with covered loggia, a tennis court and several outdoor sitting and dining areas

The World’s Most Expensive Penthouse ($305 Million)

There’s word going around that the world’s most expensive penthouse has just been snapped up by an unnamed Arab Sheik for a whooping $305 million. This 2 story penthouse, which is located in Monaco, includes a full height library, infinity pool, secure panic room with surveillance cameras, cinema rooms and every other conceivable symbol of luxury (not to mention stunning views of the Mediterranean). This home was designed by London based firm Candy and Candy who have been taking the design world by storm. Be sure to check out the videos we have included that show off more of their work at the end of the post.

But first the images…

A dramatic stairway leading into this romantic gallery features exquisite lighting design, beautiful surrounding sculptures and ornamental plants.

This elegant two-story library is every bookworm’s dream lounge!

Here, the metallic coffer ceiling is reflected by two crystal chandeliers, which seem to take the cake in this lavish dining suite.

The neutral bedroom is slightly more contemporary than the rest of the estate. We approve!

This must be the matching master bath suite where the Sexta pendant lamp compliments the chaise and architectural details.

The English garden effect in this dreamy veranda comes complete with a fancy swing that is long enough to nap on.

The double mirrors create an amazing illusion of a panoramic seascape from this cozy office niche.

The House that Parks a Lamborghini in the Living

Today we are featuring this exquisitely modern two-story residence located in the Shokrane area of Tokyo. From the dramatically high ceilings hang beautiful abstract sculptures and bed-sized chandeliers. Also furnished with modern classic chairs and steel-framed glass floors are floating rooms throughout the museum-like home, all designed by Takuya Tsuchida. We suppose it has the typical wow factor of a multi-million dollar home but wait, there’s more… This home owner has dedicated half of the entire basement to building a state of the art 9 car parking garage with elevator access to the living room! He can virtually step out of his Lamborghini and onto the couch! Talk about door to door service! Worried about gaseous fumes potentially seeping onto your dinner plate? No worries, the platform retracts to your basement when you don’t feel like showing off your wheels. Should fool the tax men we suppose, at least *until* they see the Le Corbusier collection in the living!

So how does one attain such luxuries, you ask? The owner is in his 40′s and owns a clothing company and restaurant business, which makes us believe we may be in the wrong line of work…. [hmmm.... need more pageviews! ]
