To keep a room feeling big and bright, allow light to bounce around the walls by choosing a stark white paint, and introduce black accents via furniture and accessories.

If you are looking for a burst of sunshine in your interiors, then take a look at this beaming collection of yellow room reference, to try throughout your home. (Warning:This is quite a large post!)

To add a cheerful ray to your living room you could start subtly with accessories, cushions and throws, artwork, or perhaps a small accent chair or decorative screen, but if you wanted to go all out on the theme, paint a large accent wall in a vibrant shade or even have a sofa reupholstered. Of course, there are many shades to choose from, if a bright primary yellow is too overpowering for you, a lemon sherbet may be more calming on the eye.

If you are tired of clutter and fuss, try some Scandinavian zen, as rendered by the guys at digital production company Industriromantik. The Swedish studio has produced these images and videos on behalf of Skanska New Homes, for their property developments in the heart of Stockholm, and we think they’re a perfect solution for slick city living.

In true Scandinavian style the walls remain a vast white canvas, on which colorful splashes of modern art and interesting prints are hung to add zest and personality. Furniture upholstery also adds to the Swedish paint box, along with carefully arranged books and ceramics; accessories are kept neat and tidy to retain the uncomplicated look, and the pale scheme successfully reflects the generous amounts of natural light for an ultra sharp result.

The essential wooden flooring is warmed with rugs, and modern furniture is clean lined and contemporary, softened by throws and plump contrasting cushions.

Kitchens and bathrooms are sleek and streamlined, and all space is used to it’s maximum potential with clever storage.

Bachelor pads have a reputation of being either extremely stark or on the mismatched messy side, so we have put together this bag of tricks to help refine the man den.

The home entertainment zone is ever present in a bachelor pad, so get it right with enough stylish storage to house all your gadgets, and always hide away ugly wiring. If you’re not a collector of knickknacks, textured wall panels add personality to a living space, though do try to break up collections of books with some softer forms to create a more visually pleasing shelf display. Plenty of shelving for music and magazines keeps the place tidy and organized, and smart storage hides away junk in a flash, choose furniture of just a few shades for a pulled together cohesive look.

Furniture pieces should not hug the walls or be condemned to one level. Move the sofa toward the centre room, it actually creates the illusion of a larger space, and don’t forget to utilize the full height of your room with wall mounted units.

Photographs and artwork personalize a home, and plants always soften a space, making it look lived in and looked after.

Never underestimate the power of layering; neat layering builds a homely feel, so add a rug beneath a coffee table and a few cushions to the sofa to add warmth and pops of color.

There’s something to be said about these Japanese kitchens – they are sleek, modern, captivating, and makes quite the dynamic statement. You cannot pin them to a particular mood or tone – they can be warm and cozy or cool and clean. But one popular idea most Japanese kitchens seem to subscribe to is to bring people together, to create a space that can be lived in – a space that incorporates cooking, eating, and relaxing all together. Essentially, a place one would enjoy spending a lot of time in with friends and family – laughing, sharing stories and recipes with, and enjoying the company of each other in a comfortable and inviting room. The designs from ToyoKitchen show all aspects of traditional design though in quite modern settings. Their designs include warm tones with wood flooring and cabinetry and also cooler tones with stainless steel countertops and appliances. One consistent theme you will notice is straight lines – from the cabinetry and flooring to the lighting and seating areas you will see a continuity of simple lines. It is the clean lines and minimalist approach that makes Japanese kitchen design stand out and keeps families cooking, eating, and loving every moment they spend in their beautifully designed rooms.

Moody Melancholic Interiors

It is not everyday that you come across designs like those visualized by Plamen Nedev. These designs may not be for everyone but Plamen is a master at what he does. The artist’s obsession for gray and gloomy is evident in each setting. His moody, pensive scenes punctuated by surreal(and sometimes spooky?) artwork create quite an impact on the viewer. If you are the solitary ‘artsy’ type who thrives on the melancholic, this post is for you…

Pixel Inspiration in Decor

The pointillism painters were fascinated by them in the late 1800′s. Modern society measures picture quality with them. And these days, they have become a source of inspiration in decor. Pixels are now common in the design world featured as graphic prints on everything from pillows to bed-sheets to meticulously-constructed lamps and clocks. This fascination may in part be sparked by an increasingly digital world, and in part by our initial fascination with dots, evident during the pointillism period in art – how a large group of many tiny dots, varying in color, can compose a larger image. But in most of these designs, we are intrigued by the idea of pixels close-up that make up an object, such as a table or lamp. Regardless, they make for funky and modern touches in your living room or bedroom and are probably a good conversation starter.

If you are an art admirer and know your Van Goghs and Vermeers, you would appreciate these modular patterns from ixxi.

London based interior accessory store Zuzunaga has a cool collection of pillows, rugs and couches that celebrate pixels.

This mod, black and white armless pixel couch was designed by Dune.

The pixel hand hanger by 8-bit hanger!

Joongho Choi designed this brightly-colored pixel table, which would make for an edgy and unique addition to a living room.

This Baroque style pixel lamp by Stellavie is a beautiful and unique meshing of two different eras and styles. While more toned down in color, it would still make a statement anywhere.

These vividly-colored pixel lamps by Yank Design are a bit more noticeable than the Stellavie, but are still beautiful in that they are reminiscent of naturally-formed raw stones.

The “falling pixels” effect of this brightly colored coaster by 25togo could help spark a conversation from your surprised guests.

Have lots of time and lots of similar sized books? Take a DIY cue from Icoeye who decorated their entire bookshelf in pixel graphics, using one book at a time.

Not enough time? Then keep track with the Pixel Clock.

Artist Duncan Wilson was inspired to create walls of colorful post it notes that resemble pixels.

Castle Themed Interiors

The arched ceilings of this hallway are stunning, and reminiscent of a quintessential castle dining hall. Stone is omnipresent here, appearing in the arches of the ceiling, in the large fireplace, and on the floor. The fireplace is intricately and ornately carved. The wooden furniture is sparse but also quintessential of castle decor. Like in most castle halls, a rich brown, wooden bench, chairs, and smaller sidetable decorate the hall. The large lantern hanging above the dining table is the main source of light and the wooden doors curve upwards to form a pointed arch as well. Brought to our attention by Turquoise queen Erin, today we bring you London based fabric and furnishing company Designer Guild‘s collection of Spring inspired interiors. The fabrics that these rooms sport are very exuberant and they boldly represent the season that welcomes the new. The color palette uses classical motifs from Gustavian interiors and exquisitely drawn floral designs to create a mood that reflects the fresh feel of spring. Take a look!

More visualization awesomeness! With gold gilding, green accents and opulent finishings TheeDex studio brings to life this classic abode of a Victorian gentleman. The details in the images just keep hitting you…. from the glimmer of the lighting to the shadows of the pool balls to the puckers of the diamond tufting on the leather chairs. Only nitpick we have is that some of the images look a little washed out. Perhaps rather than going for true photorealism the designers were gunning for surreal grandeur.
