The technology has been around for years and it’s called a CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) and it actually is a tool used in production, not just a PR gimmick. A CAVE environment like this is used by people in for instance the oil & gas industry, automotive industry and researchers in various areas. I did some CAVE visualizations for customers in climate research, phobia research such as fear of heights and architectural visualizations

Hyperbaric chambers used to be rare and expensive. These days mountaineers have hyperbaric tents that are affordable.

These 3D systems will become less expensive as they are widely adopted. The price drop will be slow, but it will drop. In the meantime, theses systems establish a new “local,” a driving factor in the face of the de-localization of knowledge work.

The local mall here has an inflatable movie screen the size of one you might find at the drive-in movies. Things change. The price falls. The future will be different and the same. Even 3D will be like that.

Yes thats correct but freelancers will not benefit from that because studios will be the one using the technology.

But i am pretty certain that this will never be in use so we are all happy

And lets be honest. Its just too weird to stand in that box, loosing the sight of where you are and afraid that you are going to fall from a cliff

Even if it i becomes one, 3D artists still would be required to create the models and environment. I don’t see this being a threat to designers.

That will never live to be an actual production used tool. Aldough its great for showing off technology.

So we freelance 3d artists have nothing to be afraid of
